RTS,S malaria vaccine candidate

RTS,S is the malaria vaccine candidate furthest along in the development process. The development of this vaccine candidate began in the early 1980s. In the past decade, studies of RTS,S have indicated that it may help protect young children and infants in malaria-endemic areas against infection and clinical disease caused by Plasmodium falciparum, the most deadly species of the malaria parasite.
